Brandon Landers passes for five TDs in Grambling State victory
GRAMBLING, La. - Brandon Landers threw five touchdown passes Saturday to lead Grambling State to a 57-9 victory over Texas Southern. Grambling, (7-1, 7-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) handed Texas Southern (0-8; 0-7) its 11th consecutive loss.
Grambling went up 14-0 on a pair of touchdown runs in the first quarter. Then Brandon Landers hit Clyde Edwards for a 3-yard touchdown - the first of three scorning passes Edwards caught.
Texas Southern's only points came in the third quarter, beginning with a safety and ending with Cornelius Harmon's 35-yard touchdown pass to Michael Anderson. Harmon completed 21 of 38 passes for 250 yards. He was intercepted twice.
Brandon Landers completed 13 of 19 for 223 yards.
Clyde Edwards' three touchdown receptions set a school record for career touchdowns at 36. The previous record, set by Scotty Anderson, was 35 touchdowns.
Clyde Edwards, who had five receptions for 102 yards against Texas Southern, has now made at least one reception in 34 consecutive games, beginning in his freshman campaign in 2004.
