Matthew Stafford threw two touchdown passes in the second half to Calvin Johnson to rally Detroit, and Jason Hanson's fourth field goal of the game gave the Lions a 26-23 overtime victory over the Vikings on Sunday. Adrian Peterson finished with 78 yards rushing and a touchdown for the Vikings, but only five yards on five carries after halftime. Matthew Stafford completed 32 of 46 passes for 378 yards. The third-year quarterback heaved a pass off his back foot in Calvin Johnson's direction. The 6-foot-5 Calvin Johnson hauled in the ball with Griffin all over him, and Jason Hanson calmly came out to end the game.

Adrian Peterson rushed 29 times for 122 yards and 3 touchdowns in the first quarter, Donovan McNabb jogged in for a score going 10 for 21 for 169 yards. Kevin Kolb had two of his three turnovers and finished 21 for 42 for 232 yards and one touchdown pass. He was sacked four times, twice each by Jared Allen and Brian Robison.

Devin Hester Hester set the tone with a 48-yard touchdown catch and scored on a career-best 98-yard kickoff return. Jay Cutler threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Julius Peppers had two sacks, Adrian Peterson had 39 yards rushing. Donovan McNabb threw for 177 yards and completed 19 of 24 passes before being lifted for Christian Ponder.

Rookie Christian Ponder took only two starts to get his first career win, outdueling the more-heralded rookie Cam Newton. Adrian Peterson Peterson had 162 yards from scrimmage and scored two touchdowns, Christian Ponder was 18 of 28 passes for 236 yards. Cam Newton threw for 290 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. Steve Smith, who came into the game leading the NFL in yards receiving, had seven catches for 100 yards. Tight ends Jeremy Shockey and Greg Olsen also had touchdown catches for Carolina.
