Morris runs for 120 yards to lead Marshall past Rice
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Quarterback Bernard Morris ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns to lead Marshall to a 34-21 win over Rice on Saturday night.
Marshall (1-7, 1-3 Conference USA) snapped an eight-game losing streak dating to last season.
Two of the conference's worst defenses allowed a combined 909 yards. Marshall, which had been held under 100 yards rushing as a team four times this season, ran for a season-high 254 yards.
Morris completed 15-of-33 passes for 227 yards but was most effective with his feet.
He became the Thundering Herd's first 100-yard rusher this season, scoring on a 9-yard run in the second quarter and adding a dazzling 26-yard TD run for a 24-0 lead in the third quarter.
Chase Clement threw two TD passes and he scored on a 20-yard run, all in the second half, for Rice (1-7, 1-3)
Marshall closed the scoring on Kelvin Turner's second TD run, an 8-yarder with 1:23 left in the game.
Clement ran 11 times for 76 yards and completed 29-of-48 passes for 281 yards.
Rice's James Casey had seven catches for 101 yards and Jarett Dillard had seven catches for 99 yards.
